My students need more non-fiction texts in Spanish for small group reading centers. These books are high-quality resources for science and social studies. They include amazing pictures and diagrams for explaining the earth and solar system.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are part of a Gifted and Talented Spanish Dual Immersion program in a high poverty neighborhood. Half of them are native English speakers and half are native Spanish speakers.
Their goal is to leave elementary school, not only speaking two languages, but also reading well and writing properly in all academic subjects.
Despite coming from economically disadvantaged families, these students have worked hard to earn their place in this program. They are the cream of the crop at our school and help to set the bar for the rest of the students. Helping our dual immersion students is to ensure their success as future bilingual leaders in our community.
My Project
Our gifted dual immersion students study science and social studies in Spanish. However, our district has not provided us with a science textbook. These high-quality illustrated books are a great resource to help my students learn about the structure of the earth and solar system. They also have social studies books on world history, religions, and cultures which are part of our curriculum. I would like a small group set of each topic so that my students can take turns reading them at centers. Informational texts are always helpful in preparing students for success in high school. These books happen to include amazing color-printed illustrations that make them very engaging and fun to read!
