Cross-Cultural Connections in the International Academy Advisory Program

Help me give my students the supplies they need to have social emotional support and build connections across multiple languages and cultures, including art supplies, games and academic tools.

My Project

Our school supports immigrant and refugee English Learners as they seek to graduate high school while simultaneously learning English and being brand-new to the US.

Beyond academics, our students need support in social-emotional learning and building friendships across cultures during our advisory block, focusing on academics while allowing them to "just be kids." With supplies from this project, teachers will be able to provide our students with activities and games that help them go beyond language and background barriers and feel part of the school community.

The coloring materials, games, puzzles and more will help the students build relationships and open up.

With roughly 700 students, our students and teachers need support with physical supplies to allow them to build their bridges and connections. Most of our students also hold part-time jobs before and after school, meaning their advisory time is the only time of the week when they can be silly, creative, and learn about one another. We love our students because of their hard work and dedication, and hope to recognize their resilience with your support.
