Crocheting the Idea and Knitting Together the Details
Help me give my students the Clover Takumi Bamboo Circular Knitting Needles - Size 13, 16 Length and Lion Brand London Kaye Crochet Hook - Large, 20 mm, because they want to learn to crochet and knit.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We are working with stations in our classroom. I have a fiber station where students can build puppets, work with yarn and various unusual materials like plastic and bubble wrap!
Many of my older students have asked me to show them how to crochet and knit like their moms and grandmas.
I have tried to create crochet hooks with popsicle sticks (that really didn't work so well) and knitting with pencils (not successful). I want to show my students how to use the proper tools to create with fiber.
There are lesson connections I can make with where fiber comes from (cotton from plants, wool, and yarn from animals) which can help my students make connections to their everyday use of fiber. I also want to introduce them to contemporary artists who use fiber in their artwork.
