Crocheting 6th Graders with Hearts for Service

My Students
My 6th grade homeroom students are amazing individuals who really have developed a heart for service. Jackson, Missouri has a small town feel but it is growing rapidly. We have a population of around 14,600. Our middle school has a population of just over 800 6th and 7th grade students.
My students want to make a difference in our world. They want to give back to help those who need help. Those small crochet squares when combined with others from around the country, will make a huge difference in the lives of others.
My Project
I would like to teach my 6th-grade homeroom class to crochet. I already work with 6th graders during lunch to teach them to crochet and knit and it has become very popular. They are so caring and want to use these new skills to help our world.
By teaching my entire homeroom class to crochet, not only do they learn a new skill that they could use into adulthood, they will also learn to make crochet rectangles that will be donated to organizations such as Warm Up America who assembles them into blankets for those in need. We will need a variety of crochet hooks and yarn.
