Critical Thinking About the Ethics of Science

My Project

Each group will pace the reading for their book over a 8-week time period. Each week, members of the group will rotate reader tasks during each book club discussion. The roles for each reader task will center around the common core standards: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.2; CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.3; CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.4. CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.5. Students will also engage in speaking and listening standards with one of tasks being a question leader for the week that focuses the group on questions he/she has created for the assigned readings for the week.

I am asking for more books to increase the diversity of choice in my book club selections.

I have some selections that were successful in the past year already available at my school and students were incredibly receptive to the choice book club unit/project. However, there were quite a few students who didn't get to read a book that they wanted because I didn't have enough quality "popular" texts available for all students to take home their own copies. Since students are reading the books at home, and completing the group discussions while in class, it is essential to have a book available for every student.
