Critical Thinkers + Creativity Thinkers = Problem Solvers

Help me give my students an introduction to coding and develop their reading skills.

My Project

I have a unique group of kindergarten and 1st grade students who love to learn and lack coding experience. The pandemic only proved what we already knew; the digital divide in our country is tremendous. Lack of internet service at home, digital experiences, and parent support made instruction during the pandemic nearly impossible. As a result, the achievement gap only compounded for our school. Despite these challenges, these students are back in school and loving learning!

Coding resources and differentiated readers will build confident, creative, critical thinkers that will be the future problem solvers of tomorrow!!

I serve a community that is about 30% Native Hawaiian and qualifies for Title I funding. Coding requires students to be problem solvers, which requires critical thinking skills, creativity, grit, and resiliency. With these skills the students will increase their achievement in all areas of study, not just in coding. The best part is that it will be FUN!!
