My students need 5 Chromebooks so that we can research & write about topics covered in science, social studies, language arts, health, and math.
Every morning my students come to school ready to learn with many interesting questions. Many times I will look things up on the teacher computer to satisfy their curiosity about something they thought about. I would love to have the students doing all the research instead of me just showing them.
My class consists of 34 curious and eager to learn 5th graders.
They love little projects where they are asked to research particular subjects that we are studying. It might be learning more about particular elements from the periodic table or an early explorer to the New World. Our school is really awesome! All the teachers are really close friends, and this makes for a very happy campus where there is lots of interaction between classrooms. We all love to help each other and share what we have learned that works for us in the classroom. Right now we are struggling to keep up with our technology needs. All of our students are hungry for the tools to research and go deeper in all subject areas. We could use more technology and that I why I chose Chromebooks as my project.
I will use the Chromebooks that I am requesting in small groups that will be rotated around the classroom each day. We will do research in all curricular areas. For some of the research we will make a presentation to the class. Sometimes we will work in collaborative groups to solve a problem that we researched together as a team. As we get more technology, the plan will be to start each day on a Chromebook, with links for students to go to for morning assignments. Our new math program has a lot of tutorial videos as well as extension activities that will also be utilized within the classroom.
Students love to create, share, and to teach others.
This makes them feel empowered, but it also benefits the whole class. Students will be learning from others. By working together in small groups using the Chromebooks, students will learn to work together as a team, just like many real world situations we are faced with as adults. Everyone will be given the chance to participate within the group because each student will have his/her own research tool.
