Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is comprised of many students who are immigrants and speak a language other than English at home, are gifted, or are part of our special education programs.
I love the start of each day as students line up ready to get to class.
They smile because they know that something exciting will happen. I keep them guessing at what new things I might try or how I will read, and even what I just might wear (I came dressed as Dr. Seuss one day). These students all have different interests, from playing sports to reading a good book, but they share a common bond, the bond of curiosity and that is truly an amazing gift.
My students live in a high-poverty area in Arizona. Our school is a Title I campus, and 100% of the school is eligible for the free lunch program. Our focus goals are to greatly improve our writing and our math abilities, but a major focus is to improve our reading ability with fluency to comprehension in all aspects of our school and classroom.
My Project
My students love to learn, giving students the ability to help create a classroom will support their love of learning with a personal touch.
Students love to show off their learning but to show off their designs and creations that will help mold and express their way of thinking - all from each student's own perspective.
Having a Cricut in our classroom will help students in designing and creating their own manipulatives as well as a classroom project with their own designed t-shirts that will support a book study. Students are more invested in learning when they feel a part of the process.
I love seeking feedback and new ways of helping students - this project will be amazing and show everyone around campus and at home just how much we can love to read by showing off the creations that were created, instead of just telling families.
