This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a vibrant, funny, artistic and creative community of learners. My students and I represent the Center For Learning. The Center for Learning is the special education department of our school. The beauty of this program is that it begins in 1st grade and ends in 12th grade. Due to the fact that many of our students are within our school building for a good portion of their educational journey we get to truly know them academically, socially and emotionally. This affords us the beauty to breed and foster an atmosphere of becoming family oriented. As a result of this unique educational experience we get to form and develop meaningful relationships.

Our Classrooms Need Meaningful Decor!

As an educator, it is my belief that a teacher's classroom should be a meaningful extension of who they are, their educational philosophies and mirror the students that they teach. Dreary and dry classroom decor that is stale and generic in my opinion can suppress the creativity of both the teacher and students. When the decor of the classroom is meaningful and reflects both the teacher and the students creativity is not only spawned but also encouraged.

My Project

Our classrooms are blank canvases! The walls of every classroom should be filled with meaningful creative projects and decor that reflect what is being taught in the classroom. The Cricut will afford both teachers and students the chance to tap into their creativity to produce decor for the classroom that mirrors what the students have learned. The Cricut will also allow for students to create meaningful projects that reflect their thinking and ability to process what is being taught. This will give life to the classroom walls so that each classroom will have a museum type likeness.

The Cricut will allow students to use technology in a meaningful way.

This is one of the major highlights of the Next Generation Learning Standards. Secondly, each student will be able to create and map out their projects using visuals to create colorful story boards. This will empower students who struggle with reading & writing. This will give them an opportunity to engage in classroom activities via another medium that can display their creativity and uniqueness. The Cricut will also be used to help students to decorate the walls/halls of the school so that they mirror & display the schools diversity, cultures & school spirit. These art projects will teach students the power of planning, teamwork and responsibility.
