This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are vibrant, inquisitive and very honest when in comes to asking questions about any aspect of life. It is very important to them to be surrounded in an environment that offers transparency and understanding. The groups of ninth and tenth graders that I teach stay together for two years. Our classroom becomes truly our second home.
My classes consist of five different groups of students whose major goal is to learn and persevere the challenges they face.
My students live in an exceptionally high-needs community, were poverty, violence, limited resources and discouraging academic experiences are seen as normal life circumstances.
My Project
This year, part of our responsibility as teachers is to do Social Emotional Learning activities to check in with our students' feelings. My students have been affected personally since the neighborhood that they live in has been very affected by Covid-19. Many of them have lost family members, relatives, and even friends. Their lives have changed a lot. Part of the changes that they've been facing is the multiple outdoor activities that they have to postpone because of the pandemic. With so many changes in their lives, why not bring activities that can keep their imagination going and cheer them up. A Cricut Joy could make that happen.
A Cricut joy will help us make a personalized canvas in which each student can choose or create an inspirational quote.
Every student will take home their canvas and display it in their area of preference, as an affirmation to a brighter day.
Each student will have the opportunity to research or create affirmations while the class is in session. The Cricut joy will allow us to print and cut their affirmation quotes and paste them onto the canvas. These activities will help students build confidence, understand their own strengths, and will bring smiles to their faces. Making our students happy has always been a priority and why not do it in a creative way.
