My Students
I provide speech and language therapy intervention for students with communication disorders and/or learning disabilities from grades K-8. All of my students have great potential to reach their academic goals. They are kind, caring and have a natural curiosity learning. With the proper supports available I believe my students can exceed expectations and become independent and successful. As an educator and a therapist it is my responsibility to create an environment that is conducive to learning by having the necessary resources available to help all of my students reach their goals.
My Project
My students often become unmotivated and disengaged when presented with traditional materials and are expected to learn in traditional ways. As a speech language teacher, my job is to help students access the curriculum by breaking down concepts in a more understandable way. As a result, I rely heavily on anchor charts or visual tools and strategies to enhance my students’ ability to recall or process information. A Cricut cutting machine would allow me to cut and create appealing visual aids and materials to support my student’s learning. Visual supports such as signs, symbols, charts, models, are so important for my students. They help to improve the comprehension of new topics and concepts. They can also be used to illustrate new concepts or skills. Visuals also increase my students’ attention to tasks and allows them to ‘tune in’ or focus on information being presented. The Cricut cutting machine would also be a great tool to help with classroom management. I would use it to create labels or signs to keep my speech/language classroom organized. Moreover, I would be able to create labels for student materials such as notebooks, folders, bins to assist them in keeping their materials organized.
