My Students

Twenty first century skills involve problem solving and critical thinking in the highest form. My students are struggling to develop these skills in a manner that is relevant to their age.

Our class consists of 21 second grade boys and girls of varying academic skills.

The one thing that they all have in common is their enthusiasm for learning. Many of my students are poverty level or just barely over. Several come from one parent homes. We have worked very hard on our social skills because they go to latchkey, a babysitter or stay with an older sibling because that one parent works at a minimum wage job.

My Project

The Life cycle models of butterflies, ants and honeybees will provide my visual second grade learners with manipulatives to aid learning. Books for research and read alouds will aid my audial learners and provide skills that will be used throughout their educational career.

Creepy crawlers and kids go hand in hand.

The Ant apartment will provide my tactile learners with real life connections. My students will be able to watch science on a daily basis.

My students will also be able to integrate science, math and literacy with the help of these supplies. This will make their learning more meaningful.
