Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kindergarten should be a year of exploration. The children are in a new learning environment, they are making new friends, and they are at the beginning of their academic journey. My students need many hands-on learning activities to help enhance their first year in school.

This year I have 23 high energy four-year-olds.

This is the first school experience for most of them. They have a lot of potential, and they are ready to eagerly participate an all of the activities that I can prepare for them. K4 is a delicate choreography of learning academics, with social interactions, and learning the ins and outs of how one behaves in a school setting. My students are being asked to do a lot of academic work in pre-kindergarten. I want to make their "work" seem like it is their "play" as much as possible. By using this formula my students should be well-prepared for Kindergarten as well as having a love for school and learning.

My Project

My students need science and math materials that can provide hands-on learning opportunities that will instill a sense of wonder in the children. The mixing of primary colors to create secondary colors is pure magic to a four year old. Especially if one uses the words "abracadabra" and "poof". The different prisms and lens will give the children an opportunity to see the world, literally, through different lenses. The ink pads will be used to incorporate stamping activities into our math and reading lessons. The laminate will be used to make durable center materials. The Boo Boo bags help immensely when someone has a minor injury on the playground, or has very deeply had their feelings hurt. The construction set helps to build the children's imagination as well as give them a hands-on experience that will later help them understand different mathematical and science concepts.

I am requesting materials that will enhance my students first school experience.

I want to start my students off on a road to learning that is filled with learning opportunities that feel like play. Their first year in school creates the foundation for all of their future learning. They need to learn the parameters of being at school. They need to learn how to socialize in a new environment, as well as learn the pre-academic skills needed for K5. Most importantly they need to love learning.
