The students in my Money Matters classes are learning the value of money, including how to create, modify, and follow a budget. This skill will ensure their financial well-being. I want my students to recognize the importance of planning for future income and expenses.
Our school is an urban high school and my students are 11th - 12th graders who come from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.
Most of these students are college-bound and many of them are student-athletes. Many of my students are enthusiastic about gaining the financial tools they will need to have an independent life.
My Project
My students will use the padfolios during an event called "Credit for Life Fair". In the padfolios they will hold their budgets and other helpful papers. They will also use the paper in the padfolios to take notes from various vendors, etc. They will learn how to keep their finances organized and when the fair is done they will be able to keep the pad folios as a reminder of their experience. The padfolios will also be a tool for students to use for their changing budgets now and into their adulthood.
These padfolios will give students something tangible to use during this hands-on event as opposed to just giving them some paper.
The professional look of the pad folios will give them a sense of adult-hood and professionalism. At the conclusion of the event, the pad folios will be kept as a tool for all future budget/finance-related planning.
