Creativity with the Cricut

Help me give my students an electronic cutter, the cricut, to personalize their projects by creating vinyl lettering. Students will be more hands on by engaging in jig-saw activities, creative activities, and expressing their craft through art.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach the most loving, kind-hearted, and inspiring students in the world. They make me a better person just by knowing them. Every student has capabilities and talents that I help foster and bring out in them. Many students who attend our school are from low-income housing and have their own personal struggles and obstacles. I want school to be a place where they do not have to worry and can get access to anything and everything they need to be successful. Our students are extremely inclusive, as we pride ourselves on being a big family. Students are enthusiastic to learn about their classmates and are able to relate to their backgrounds and culture.

My class consists of 150 extraordinary students.

Of my 150 students, 60 have IEPs which include learning disabilities, Autism, emotional disorders, speech and language impairment, and physical disabilities. Many of my students love to create art, poetry, and enjoy writing narratives about their real or imaged experiences. It is essential that my students have the resources they need to be creative. Fostering a love of art in my classroom allows them to open up and express themselves in a different way.

My Project

The cricut is instrumental in many ways. Firstly, the cricut will be used to create letter lacing cards to aid in strengthening vocabulary and forming new words. Students will unscramble the letters to create content and academic vocabulary we will use throughout our units. Students will also use it for letter cubes to work out word activities. The cricut will also allow students to create character models, as they can print out words to describe the character. Our focus this year is on techniques and central idea, so students can create visual boards, which with the help of colored vinyl and the cricut, will pop and allow students to be expressive. Students will also utilize this for our art projects, as it will enhance their creativity and spark an interest in graphic design and art. In addition, I will use the cricut for student of the month awards, certificates, and personalized bookmarks or pencils for special occasions.
