My Project
Have you ever walked into a space and had the feeling that you belong? That is how every student should feel when entering their classroom. A welcoming space owned and created by the children takes a lot of time and preparation, such as designing and cutting materials for them to use. Teachers have been using a Cricut machine for a number of years now, but I’ve only recently discovered that it is a great tool for creating resources for different art and academic areas, for speeding up the process of cutting materials for bulletin boards, and for designing a creative environment. With the Cricut, I can also create labels to make our classroom more organized and neat.
Having the Cricut will greatly decrease the amount of time I spend drawing and cutting, but even more exciting than that is being able to imprint my students' work onto different materials such as fabric and vinyl with the Cricut Maker.
In the Pre-K curriculum, there is a unit on clothes. As a final project, students can create their own designs, and I can use the Cricut Easy Press to help me iron on the heat transfer vinyl onto fabric. Students would be so excited to see their own designs on t-shirts! The possibilities are endless. It would be so exciting for my students and me to have this tool and the materials that go along with it in our classroom.
