My class has thirty-seven students, all with very diverse backgrounds and cultures. Our school is a Title I school and all of the students receive free lunch. There are forty languages spoken at our school. We are a melting pot of learners! There are many English language learners who need extra practice with literacy, math, and science.
I want students to develop a love of learning.
My first graders' hard work motivates me to seek out the very best opportunities for them.
My Project
Colored paper makes a student’s work stand out! My first graders experience the writing process on a daily basis. We initially brainstorm about our topic, then we use graphic organizers to organize our ideas, we begin to write our first drafts, we edit our work, and finally we publish our flawless writing pieces. The problem is securing the colored paper. I cut coupons and search for deals everyday for colored paper because we do not receive any at school. My students feel important when they can use the bright colored paper to display their work in our hallways. It is also wonderful to use for projects. The colored paper is also very helpful when important papers get sent to parents because the bright colors help it stand out instead of getting lost in the shuffle of student work. Due to school funding being cut, our art class has been taken away. I know how important it is for my students to be able to express themselves. The water color paper will give me an opportunity to include drawing and painting in my classroom.
