My students need artist quality materials such as acrylic paint, watercolors, and ink that they can check out and take home to work on their artwork on nights and weekends.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are motivated to become artists and they are located in the cultural vibrancy of downtown Los Angeles. We are an audition-free, public arts high school and our students enjoy a rigorous art and academic education. My students are mainly low-income with over 70% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch and making us a Title I school. They enjoy the local museums, participate in the arts, and thrive in the urban environment.
Our school has a dual mission of arts and academic excellence and students graduate ready for college and also for further study in the arts.
Each of our students has as many as 12 art classes during high school, as well as exhibitions, and participate in national and local art contests. We win more Scholastic Art Awards than any high school in the Western United States (350 awards this year!). These hardworking kids appreciate what they have. You would like them, and you will love their artwork. We have a mission and a mandate to integrate the arts. They are creative, ambitious and certain to make great use of any art supplies that come their way.
My Project
My students attend an art high school and they take the work of art seriously, and they want to take it "to go" with them when they leave on the weekends. We need smaller portions of high-quality art supplies that are easy for kids to carry home and complete their work. Just like taking a book from the library, I will provide a check out system for art supplies. They will be able to work on their artwork home. Students will complete personal artworks for their college entrance portfolios and their classes which includes using the acrylic paints and brushes for paintings, assorted watercolor, coloring brush pens, and water-resistant ink to create drawings and illustrations for their Drawing and Design classes. This project will give all my students access to creativity on their own time.
Your support will help aspiring artists fill their portfolios with paintings and drawings.
My students work in Drawing, Painting, and 2D Design and illustration. They are enormously creative and these materials will help them make art for art exhibitions, contests, Advanced Placement Studio Art classes, and college applications. Each of the students has a unique use for the materials, but all of them are working on their own self-expression (as well as getting great grades). The materials requested in this project are the most often begged and borrowed items in my classroom. 70% of our students are low income and do not have the means to get their own art supplies. We want to make it easy for the students to be creative and thrive.
