This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my playwriting class show a great deal of initiative and truly want to find ways to explore current events through writing. Many have faced a multitude of obstacles in their lives but remain resolute in graduating, going to college, and truly living the American dream. I have found many of them thrive when they are introduced with creative projects, so I try to enhance the class with creativity as often as possible.

The students are very energetic and crave to surpass expectations.

If provided the chance, they will do amazing things in life -- many are at risk when they enter our building but we have a 95% graduation rate!

My Project

Students thrive when they are presented with creativity in conjunction with their academics. In my playwriting class, I seek to use art and crafts to enhance the academic content. Students will be able to utilize colored pencils, and art books to capture some of the thoughts they have as they analyze various plays. This will allow them to share their thoughts in creative ways and build upon classroom discussions.

What images come to mind as we discuss the characterization of Iago in Shakespeare's Othello?

Can we draw our thoughts? How can we create an arts and crafts project that will allow us to represent characterization in various artistic forms? These will all be questions that we explore in the classroom.
