Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The school year is fast approaching and I am very excited to begin my second year of teaching. I am a second grade teacher at PS 115, a low income school in Washington Heights. This past year I have learned many lessons and one of those is the importance of having a classroom supply of crayons, markers, and pencils that will last the whole year. Many of my students can barely afford the necessary supplies for school, let alone crayons and enough pencils for the year. I feel that it is important to give my students the opportunity to express their creativity and provide them with the materials they will need to work and succeed. I found myself many times having great activities planned, but not being able to implement them successfully because of the lack of coloring materials. Now that a new year is approaching, I hope to be fully prepared for my students. I would like to have a classroom supply of crayons, markers, colored pencils and writing pencils. My students will use the writing pencils in all aspects of school work. The coloring materials will be used in various elements of their work, especially when they publish their writing work and when they create posters and pictures to showcase in the classroom. I want my students to have the materials to express themselves and I found it very difficult last year. When the crayons and pencils finished it was very hard for me to supply them. I want to be prepared for my students so they can have an environment of learning.
