Help me give my students informative poster, cough drops, toner, tangrams and access to more creative ways of expressing their mathematical thinking with a Cricut Maker 3 and Easy Press Machine 3 and supplies.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many students are under the misconception that Mathematics cannot be creative and that creative people cannot "do math". I've had many students claim that they aren't "a math person" because they are designers, or illustrators, or actors.
I firmly believe that the beauty of math lies in its artistry, and the beauty of art lies in the hidden math.
Help me show my students that math and creativity are Best Friends and bring out the best in each other. I'm hoping that this project will allow my artistic students a more approachable way to access the math content. Furthermore, I hope this project will show the self-identified "nerds" that math and art do not have to be mutually inclusive.
The Cricut machine and supplies will allow my students to add more dimension to their posters and projects, and the laminator will allow me to preserve these works for future students’ inspiration. Laminating student work and displaying it will also boost my students’ confidence. There’s a sense of pride to see your work displayed publicly. If students want to create something digitally, the photo ink/toner and paper will allow me to print those creations for display as well. The tangrams will allow the students a tactile and creative access point to geometric concepts, and the colorful cardstock will provide imaginative alternative to white paper. Students could use it with the Cricut machine or create with it by hand.
I just want to give my students more tools to unlock their creativity and show them that math can be colorful and not boring.
