My students come from all different backgrounds, and make a choice to come to MHS to succeed in high school. The items in this project will allow my students to do so. As I teach them about health science and the human body, many of my students have never heard their own heartbeat or listened to see what their blood pressure was so I am requesting some Blood Pressure Kits to teach them. I also want to teach them about blood types with the Blood Typing Kit (and swabs). Also, I have found that most students do not know where certain muscles are located throughout their body or what their lungs look like.
My goal with this project is to enhance my students learning about the human body through creative and critical thinking activities and projects.
Students love the chance to learn through fun activities that make them think. So, as I am teaching them about the muscles in the body, they will have the chance to make a muscle tee-shirt with the markers and t-shirts. This allows them draw on the muscles and label them, learning where the muscles are.
I have found that adding these extra activities such as making a set of lungs with Rice Krispie treats and licorice, helps students take what they have learned and use it in a way that they will always remember what was taught.
Finally, this year we started a Senior Committee. I have students who do activities to help other students earn credit in their classes and increase their attendance. The hoodie/sweatshirts, allow me, as the mentor, to recognize their efforts as a Senior Committee member. Most other schools do sweaters, but I would like to do a sweatshirt for those students.
