Help me give my students a way to carry on with their creativity because as a theatre teacher, my biggest priority is helping students to reflect and think outside of the box.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are some of the most resilient people I have ever met, but are being challenged in entirely new ways.
As a theatre arts teacher, the largest challenge for both myself and my students has been engaging in distance learning while not losing our ability to be creative.
Creative writing is something we engage in daily when we are together in the classroom. It is still possible while we are apart but just looks very different.
My Project
Each day in class, regardless of what else we have planned, we always begin with a creative writing prompt. This is something my students have come to appreciate and expect.
Whether or not a student pursues theatre arts after high school, my biggest hope is that I have provided the lifelong skill of thinking creatively.
That is my number one goal as a theatre teacher.
While I have been able to provide writing prompts in our virtual classroom, my hope is that these journals can help engage the students with more limited access or comfort with technology. These journals would allow them to continue being creative and engage them in our lessons at home.
