Creative Writing and Collaboration with Chromebooks 2!
My students need 2 Lenovo Chromebooks to enhance their writing skills, both creatively and academically in class. Having the Chromebooks will give students more access to the technology needed in today's education.
Energetic, eagerness to learn, intelligence and inquisitiveness are the words that describe my seventh grade English and Literature students. They love getting immersed in group and individual projects, and much of their creativity and eagerness to learn shines through as they are collaborating through technology!
In addition to working on student-centered literature projects, they are also learning how to conduct research and incorporate technology through digital story telling.
One of the ways I plan on incorporating this is through novel studies when students do digital story boards. Students will be able to use the Chromebooks to create animated storyboards of the novel we are reading. This is very valuable skill that will help students find their creative writing ability and allow them use technology with reading and writing.
Seventh grade projects and research oftentimes lose momentum because my students don’t have access to enough technology. Our middle school has approximately 600 students, but we only have available technology for about one quarter of the students to use at one time. Due to this, integrating technology into our classrooms on a daily basis is a struggle.
My Project
Our rural middle school is far from a 1:1 student to technology ratio. Our school is Title 1; many of our students are from low-income families. For many of our students, technology needed to complete school work is not available at home. Therefore, it is important for them to have access to necessary technology at school.
My seventh grade English and Reading students don't have enough technology to keep up with 21st century skills that are so important for today's learners.
One way my students will be utilizing these Chromebooks is during English class. We would love to give our students the ability to, not only learn to research, but also to type and create visual presentations to go with their research. They will be able to learn how to blog, create digital storyboards, complete their journals online, and much more! In Reading, our students will be working on technology-based group projects, individual projects, will be able to access wonderful programs such as Activelylearn, Edpuzzle, CommonLit, and more! In addition, we ELA teachers would love to try using an online Literature Circle, but can't without access to daily technology.
