My students are self-motivated, respectful, and independent. The class is a college preparatory class for students who will be first generation college students. This idea actually came from the students. They want to create a "unique" classroom environment that they can call "home". The class will consist of different sections (i.e. Nook, cafe, computer lab, study area, etc...). Students will be planning and choosing the interior design to create a safe, comfortable environment conducive to learning in a unique way. Students will be assigned to the different areas and will be responsible to up keep their area. Students are really excited to start this project and are already planning the design.
My Project
I am creating motivational learning spaces in the classroom. The classroom will consist of a nook, a computer lab and independent study area, as well as a group study/tutor area. The mobile white boards will help students engage in study groups and tutorials in any area of the class. Because I am setting up the class in for a more creative learning environment, we need whiteboards that can be used in any area. I also want to create an inviting area (nook) for students to engage in free reading and independent study. The chairs will create a more visually pleasing learning environment. By creating these unique spaces, I expect that students will be motivated to increase their daily reading, better their study habits, and to improve their overall attitude about school.
