This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I see students who are willing and eager to learn, but just don't always have the opportunity, or materials, to do so properly.
I teach at a Title I school in Arizona where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of the students receive backpack food on the weekend. They come into school every day with a smile on their face because they want to learn all they can, so they can be successful one day.
My Project
I have extremely motivated English Language Learners that come to school eager to work and learn every day. My ELL Students learn best when I can provide visuals to go along with the lesson. Having colored ink available in the classroom will allow me to print vocabulary cards, picture cards and math manipulative activities in color that will help students make connections in their learning.
By donating to our project, you will help improve and increase student attention and focus with the colorful visuals, which will ultimately help increase their academic success.
My students are also in need of a reading area that is inviting and will drive their motivation to read more. Adding a bench and pillows to our reading area will make a more comfortable and relaxed area where students can read in the classroom. Each student is also in need of a book bin, where they can store their differentiated level texts. Having auditory feedback phones will also help my students work together while reading in pairs.
Donating to our project will help my students receive pencil pouches to keep all of their reading and math tools together. This will help keep all of their materials in one spot for easy access while moving into small groups and independent group time.
