Creative Speech Therapy Lessons and Cozy Classroom

Help me give my students an inviting learning environment and creative speech therapy activities. I want my students to feel welcomed into my classroom and for them to participate in unique activities to promote functional language/speech learning.

My Project

My speech therapy students range from students in general education with articulation disorders to SPED students who focus on social skills and functional communication. Since I serve a wide variety of students with different needs, I need a variety of materials for my students to thrive in their speech therapy classroom. For example, students who may feel dis-regulated by fluorescent lighting will benefit from light covers. Art projects, toys, laminated materials, and cooking activities will allow my students to learn communication skills, aid in following directions and sequencing IEP goals, and work towards fluent articulation skills. Students working towards specific skills such as syntax and semantics may benefit greatly from teachers pay teachers materials. This site will also assist in providing home practice for my students as this promotes carryover of their IEP goals to improve progress. The storyboard will be a great tool to increase language skills in younger age children. Bracelet making supplies act as a motivator for students to earn beads as they practice their articulation skills. Additionally, I would like for my students to feel welcomed into the speech therapy room as it acts as a home away from home for many students. Materials including office chairs and light covers will aid in this. My students will earn dollars for working hard and use paper banks to collect their dollars. They can spend their dollars on prizes such as candy and stickers to reward hard work. All of the items on my list will aid in creating a fun, welcoming learning environment for my students in which will additionally aid in them meeting their IEP goals and making progress throughout the year. These materials will continue to benefit students for years to come as I receive several new students who qualify for IEPS each school year.
