Our school aims to work effectively with families, community members, and social service agencies to solve real problems and enable each individual student to become empowered with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to use his or her voice effectively and with integrity in co-creating our world. Students graduate from our school as stewards of the public global world. They have the will, skill, capacity, and knowledge to contribute to the greater good, and are ready for college, career, and life.
My students deserve a classroom setting that encourages collaborative learning and fosters student voice and choice.
I work with students who have lost their sense of agency and ownership of their learning. I am working to rebuild that love of learning and engagement in the community.
Our school is underfunded, the City of Manchester as a whole faces many economic challenges. An overwhelming majority of our students come from lower-income families and are disadvantaged in some way.
We recently moved into a much larger facility, which is exciting for the school's growth, however, our collaborative spaces are lacking in furniture that supports the type of learning we want to happen.
My Project
My school recently moved into a larger building that will provide us with space to design bigger and better collaborative learning spaces for our middle school students. However, considering we're a low budget charter it will be many years until we can purchase new furniture for our students.
I would like to purchase a classroom set of stools for students to use for "circles" our community building small discussion groups, a few bean bags for our quiet reading nook, and benches for the spaces where it'd be great to sit down with a student and coach their behavior choices.
Ultimately, I would like more seating options outside of the floor or a folding chair.
