My Project
This fall I was selected by Tonies box to be a Tonies for Teachers Ambassador. The company sent us a Tonies box for classroom use and a few Tonies characters. The Tonies box and characters allow students to utilize screen-free technology and gain benefits that come from being read to such as listening skills, comprehension, language development, etc. Each character has stories and/or songs that are pre-loaded. Characters are fiction, non-fiction, songs and music. When the character is placed on top of the box, the stories and songs play. Some of my special education preschoolers can adjust the volume on their own as well as change the characters when they would like. Others enjoy the Tonies with adult supervision. Tapping the box on either side, allows the students to change the stories or songs that are playing.
Tonie characters and box allow students to hear stories and songs read aloud even when an adult is not available to read to them.
Students are in control and have a choice in what they are listening to.
Besides listening independently, the Toniesbox can be connected to the speaker in the room for whole class listening. We can play calming music while working or during quiet time. The creative Tonies allow for stories and material to be recorded and uploaded to the character. This makes it possible for me to record content for my class or have students record themselves reading.
