Creative Play Through the Autism Lens

Help me give my students an opportunity to experience creative play time. These items will allow my students with autism opportunities for exploration and creative play. They will also create sensory opportunities.

My Project

My students with autism are the most amazing and inspiring humans. I am lucky to be their teacher. I am selecting the materials I have based on the needs of my students. These materials will allow for us to set up a creative play and exploration center in our classroom. The tree house will allow for the students to pretend play house, by setting up the house, using the play people to imitate familiar people. The rug car track will allow the students to play pretend that they are going different places, and using different modes of transportation. The kitchen food and dishes will also allow for pretend play using food and kitchen items. While all of these supplies will allow for creative and pretend play it will also allow for a rich approach to using language in various ways. All of these students have limited or no verbal communication. These supplies and materials will allow the staff to work on functional language while at play.

A majority of these students are from lower social economic status so having these materials to use and play with at school make their world so much richer in both knowledge, application and language.
