My sixth grade students are the fearless leaders of our school. Many of our students are so much more than just students. They are the oldest in their families and they lead the way for their siblings and cousins throughout the school. From helping their families get breakfast in the morning to helping with homework after school, our sixth graders are invested in the success of those around them. While leading in community work and keeping up with academics, our 6th grade students are at a pivotal point in their lives while constantly turning to other people in our school to help out.
My Project
Sketchbooks are a tool for every artist. They are the scribbled notes late at night or the doodle in the afternoon. They are an artist's secrets, daydreams, and next big things. Sketchbooks develop mindfulness, planning, emotional awareness, and creativity organically, and these are the skills I want develop in my sixth graders.
I want my students to feel like the authentic artists I know them to be.
Part of that is having access to a tool that helps shape their future projects while also being honing their creativity and style in the present.
Sixth grade students will be focused on comics and storytelling through art. They will be story-boarding plot lines, sketching characters and settings, and creating dynamic works that will need planning to build. Please help students grow their own voice and style while they learn the practice of keeping a sketchbook.
