My Students

How do you motivate a classroom of kindergartners when it comes to learning how to read and write? You teach them how to draw! By teaching my young students how to draw, I have motivated them to want to learn how to read sight words and write a simple sentence.

My kindergarten students are a loving and inquisitive group that really enjoy being creative when it comes to their learning.

I have a classroom of nine boys and five girls. My kindergarten through eighth grade school is located in a rural fishing village on the coast of Maine.

My Project

Using colorful crayons, markers and watercolor paints will allow my kindergarten student's sentences to come alive with vivid illustrations. Having my kindergarten students write and then read their illustrated sentences to their peers and family members will help my students learn how to read and write in a very creative manner. Also, learning how to draw in kindergarten is something that allows my students to express themselves creatively in other academic areas.

Your donation will allow me to teach my students how to read and write through learning how to draw.

The sentence of "I see a big tiger." will come alive with a colorful picture of a tiger in a jungle. Instead of just having a stick figure of a tiger standing on grass, my students will be able to bring their sentence to life by drawing a detailed picture of a tiger standing in a lush jungle. Knowing how to draw is a skill my students will use throughout their school life.
