Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kindergarten students are eager to begin our problem based learning in kindergarten. This year they will become critical thinkers, collaborators, cooperative workers, problem solvers, great communicators, and users of technology.
Many of the students in my kindergarten classroom are from low-income families.
I have several students from military families. We are a public school in a rural community in southwestern Arizona. All of my students are excited to learn in my kindergarten classroom that is filled with inquiry based learning activities. They like to sing, dance, create, and play.
My Project
This year my students will be involved in several project based learning activities that focus on the 4 Cs: critical thinking, collaboration, cooperation, and creativity. We will used content based lessons in science and social studies to explore our world. Kindergarten students will learn about people of the past as they examine the 1950's and celebrate the 50th day of school with a sock hop and soda shop using the sock hop and soda shop decorations. On the 100th day of school we will decide what we will look like in 100 years, make art projects depicting us when we are 100 years old, read the requested 100th Day of School readers, and dress up like old people in the requested costumes. The students will also grow a garden, using the requested seeds, and harvest the vegetables to make salsa and learn about Cinco De Mayo. Each activity is unique, engaging, and relevant. The students will embrace technology and use digital writing tools to present their final projects for each activity; so we need some more ink for our printer. It's a true 21st Century curriculum focused on developing the whole child as it embraces every students learning styles and needs. It's fun!
By donating to this project, you will be helping to make learning fun and exciting.
Your funding will help our curriculum come to life with sock hop and soda shop decorations, an old people costume, 100th day readers, seeds for our garden and ink for our printer. You will help fulfill the learning needs and desires of our youngest students. Low income students will have better school attendance, lower dropout rates and will most likely graduate college because they learned to love school at an early age. My kindergarten students will be successful and thrive as 21st Century learners because you care.
