This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 2017 school year has started with 35 hard working first grade students in Yuma, Arizona eager to learn. Yuma is a rural area in the very Southwest corner of Arizona. These diverse students come from different backgrounds. They bring different experiences and knowledge to the classroom. We have students who come from military families. We have students who are learning English as a second language.
Our school became an AVID Elementary School this year.
AVID is going to help prepare our students for the next level. They are going to learn several different ways. They are going to collaborate with classmates and be more organized. There are high expectations for these first graders. However, I know they will work hard to meet their goals.
My Project
I am asking for a bookcase, sixteen Headphones with Volume Control, a Classroom Laminating Machine with extra pouches, a mailbox organizer, ten Privacy Partitions, and two Heavy-Duty Pocket Charts. I would like to have a small laminating machine with extra pouches at different sizes for the classroom. I teach my students the traits of writing. The last trait is publishing. I would like to be able to laminate students' published work so we can display it around the classroom and school. They will also be able to take their work home and keep it. The privacy folders will help students when they are working on a test or independent work. They will have less distractions when the privacy folders are up. At our school, we have iPads for every student. Some students aren't able to bring headphones or the headphones break during the year. The headphones will help students be able to focus on the programs they are working on their iPads. The different color pocket charts will help us during our Grammar and Writing hour. We will be able to place examples of nouns and verbs in the pocket charts. We will be able to place examples of great sentence structure in the pocket charts for the students to look back at the help with their writing. One of the key parts of AVID is organization. The 36 slot storage mailboxes will help students be able to organize materials we are working on. It might be a place to store papers they have completed or papers they need to finish. The bookcase will have different level books sorted on it. Students will be able to go over to the bookcase to find a book at their reading level to read.
This project will also help us be organized in the classroom.
