This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Books allow my students to expand on their reading knowledge. Art supplies allow students to explore their creativity and can be integrated into STEM projects. During independent work time or centers, students have the ability to work with materials in different parts of the classroom. Currently, my students don't have full access to grade-level books, or the necessary materials needed to create adequate centers for ELA or MATH. Making sure my students have the necessary materials is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed tremendous differences in my students when I have used the incentive of centers or free choice reading. They almost always make good choices about what books to read and where in the classroom they choose to read them. My students are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they have books that appeal to them and STEM materials that are engaging.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional reading materials as well as the opportunity to participate in STEM-related centers more frequently.
The books will allow me to integrate more independent reading time, and buddy reading time, where students will be able to advance in their reading level. The art supplies and magna tiles will allow me to integrate STEM-related activities and centers that engage and challenge students. It will be extremely beneficial for some students to be exposed to more hands-on learning and more appropriate books.
