Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a teacher prepared to encourage hands on learning, I have a classroom full of first graders who are itching to create, but my closets are bare! Help us fill our shelves with materials that help children express themselves and extend their learning beyond paper and pencil activities.
My students are part of the inaugural first grade class at our brand new public elementary school in New York City.
They are a truly diverse bunch of children and represent the vibrant community our school is housed in. As a new school we are starting from scratch, and we want to ensure that the classroom is fully stocked with everything my students need to thrive.
My Project
My students come to school so excited to learn every morning. However, I sometimes feel I am not able to capture this enthusiasm because I lack the materials needed for creative projects. I am requesting paint, paint brushes, various styles of paper, glue, and molding clay for my students. With these materials I will be able to infuse art into our classroom curriculum. I am also requesting some literacy materials to inspire projects such as poetry books and blank flash cards for word practice.
Research supports the benefits of hands on, experiential learning for young children. I hope to be able to make the content come alive with these materials by enhancing learning via projects such as creating a class mural of the water cycle, or making a model of our school neighborhood for our community study.
Please help me give my eager students the learning experiences they deserve.
These materials will help foster their creativity and make learning meaningful and fun for my young ones.
