Help me give my students basic art supplies to help their creativity flow!! When we review for a test; their favorite game to play is jeopardy; students use small whiteboards to display their answers
My students are looking to start their independent lives after high school. They will develop how to successfully prepare for their time after high school. Each student's after high school experience will be different based on their individual goals. My students’ home lives vary from single parent homes to living with relatives. Being able to bring in real life experiences allows my students to connect with the topics that are being taught to guide them in life. Through the class, they will gain experience on how to apply for a job and/or college. Learning communication skills is a necessity for life after high school.
Topics discussed include career exploration and financial planning, family living, parenting, household and money management, decision-making skills, communication skills, self-awareness, crisis management, and the individual’s roles and responsibilities within the family and community.
Emphasis is placed upon the uniqueness, needs, and interests of individuals and families.
My Project
Students express themselves the best through creative experiences. One of my students' favorite projects is creating their own credit card. They use poster paper to draw out a custom credit card. It is refreshing to see the difference in style among the students. Some students will stick with a favorite sports team while others will draw their favorite character from a book or movie.
By posting topics around the classroom with easel paper; it allows students to get up and move instead of sitting in a chair all day.
These "gallery walks" allow students to discuss their ideas with other students. Students enjoy writing down their thoughts on the paper and then using the topics to start class discussions.
