My Students

John Ruskin said "The highest reward for a person's toil is not what they get for it, but what they become by it, and my students strive towards this every day during academics and vocational skills training.

My students are in kindergarten through fifth grade classes for students with significant disabilities.

They attend a public elementary school with their neighborhood peers. Their differing abilities include: Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome, Angelman Syndrome, Epilepsy, visual impairments, and hearing impairments. Many have parents currently serving in the U.S. Military.

My Project

We are requesting hands-on tasks to learn about plants. The materials will be used in our school garden along with the fruits and vegetables we are growing. Our class will be learning about healthy food choices, how to grow and harvest plants, and the environment. Having hands-on learning activities will increase my students' knowledge about nutrition and vocational skills like time on task, focus, attention, work endurance, and potential for employment.

Having our students grow and harvest fruits and vegetables will help them learn environmental science.

These hand-on tasks will help them create meals with the produce we grow. It will also help prepare our students for the work world and greatly assist with their future vocational success.
