Creative First Grade Scientists

Help me give my students clay to create a model of an animal of their choice.

My Students

My science students are curious, creative and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they inspire me every day!

Many students in my science class come in saying they want to take home projects that we build in class.

They do not have materials at home to continue their excitement at home. Due to the large number of students I teach, I reuse the materials for all of my classes.

Each child in my classroom absolutely loves exploring in science, and are excited to share their work with their families. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and team building! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of scientists that are excited and ready to learn each year!

My Project

The modeling clay will continue to enhance the engaging learning environment that I strive to create. My science classroom is a place where my students really enjoy discovering and creating new things! Every student's model will be displayed for their peers to see and then taken home to enjoy. All of the supplies have been chosen with my students in mind-I have watched their excitement when they complete a creation. Students will be able to choose an animal to create, which will help them understand how animals survive.

With the new clay, my students will be able to choose from a variety of colors that will allow them to create their vision.

They will also be able to choose an animal that interests them. The best way to increase engagement, is to give them ownership and encourage them to grow and learn in science. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in science, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with discovery.
