Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our classroom, we're blending art and writing to help students express themselves in colorful, meaningful ways. This project combines wax seal stamps for cards and sun catcher art—three hands-on, creative experiences that inspire thoughtful writing, storytelling, and self-expression. From handwritten cards sealed with wax stamps to vibrant suncatchers that reflect their personalities, these activities will make writing come alive.

With your support, my students will connect their ideas to tangible, beautiful creations, giving their words both purpose and pride.

My students are creative, curious, and love projects where they can bring their ideas to life. Many come from low-income households and don't always have access to enriching, hands-on materials. When we combine writing with art, they feel empowered to share their thoughts and feelings in deeper, more confident ways. This project helps them explore who they are through both words and design.

Students will write messages of gratitude, encouragement, and storytelling, then decorate and seal their handmade cards. Alongside this, they'll design colorful sun catchers that reflect personal stories or themes they write about—connecting visual art to their written voice.

This project turns writing into a joyful, hands-on experience. Card making builds communication skills and empathy, while suncatcher design invites self-expression and reflection. These projects help reluctant writers find their voice and give all students a way to see that their ideas can truly shine.
