This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of the students come from lower socioeconomic neighborhoods in Chicago. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 90% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also a very diverse school. We have a large population of Special Needs students that attend our school.
Special Education is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals.
Some of my students are learning to recognize letters, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or use sign language. Many of my students are non-verbal and bilingual. Our group loves to play, learn new games, and dance to a sweet tune.
In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences. We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion. I teach in a pod setting. My classroom is about building skills. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content, within their abilities.
My Project
I am requesting funds to attend a 2 day institute on Creativity and Innovation in the Classroom. This two-day conference will provide me with invaluable information that I will be able to take back with me to my classroom to improve my practice. My students will benefit because I will learn how to measure the impact of creativity in the classroom. I will be able to effectively design for and implement change through innovation while considering individual learning styles.
The knowledge that I learn from this conference will allow me to help countless learners increase their knowledge by providing them with instruction suited just for them.
I will be also able to share this information with any colleagues. Thank you for considering supporting my project.
