My Students

I work in our school library, which is currently undergoing a transition to more of a STEAM focus. Instead of our learners simply coming to the library to check out books, they can now access the books they need, but also work on personal projects and develop knowledge through a more hands-on approach.

The learners who come to this space, which include kindergarten through fifth graders, all have a hunger and a thirst for opportunities to learn and create.

This is why we are working on providing our learners with opportunities to learn in multiple ways and to explore a wide range of concepts and skills to hopefully fuel their lifelong learning spirits.

My Project

In our school, we have a time in our day where learners can choose what they want to learn about. This involves them identifying what they are interested in and then signing up for a class that will meet those needs. One of the most popular classes learners sign up for is our Makerspace class.

Our Makerspace class offers learners engaging opportunities to create, build, and learn more about their passions.

These materials will help our learners interested in engineering and creative thinking build projects and demonstrate their understanding of concepts we are teaching. We have seen that when learners have opportunities to work with engaging materials such as these, their knowledge and creativity levels rise dramatically.
