Creative Digital Media and Audio Engineering Station
My students need a Go Pro camera and accessories for making their own movies, Blue microphone for recording podcasts, and midi controllers for our digital media creation workstation, along with instructional books and instrument accessories.
Our students love to create but wish they had the same technology they see in surrounding school districts. Our school has over 49% of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, but we don't want that to stop them from being the next Steve Jobs or Alan Parsons.
Since every student doesn't have a school issued device, our students rely on the library to have the latest technology.
They love to make videos on our shared iPads and enjoy making sound effects and music with our littleBits. Imagine how cool it would be if we could turn a corner of our library into a creative media and design station to promote audio engineering and digital media production? These resources will help us teach them about audio and sound engineering.
We want to engage our at-risk population with digital media and let them see a career path they may not have thought of before. This belief is founded in the research by Ito who has shown that teens learn from new media by "hanging out, messing around, and geeking out." We want to see these geeking out activities transformed into career paths in digital video and audio production. Our school encourages new technologies and we already have students coming to the library to create.
My Project
So now we want to foster the creativity across school disciplines and see our students' learning transformed by digital media.
Our Spheros have already hooked our very diverse population into coding and programming. We'd like to take the next step toward innovation by instituting a creative media station that will be available to all students and our regular design challenges will promote learning about audio, sound, and video engineering.
Our students love music and movies, but most don't understand that these passions can be turned into a lucrative career. These materials will allow them to see a passion turned into job opportunity. Combined with our green screen, students will be able to begin making industry standard products before they even graduate from high school. They can write and produce movies and even record their own soundtracks. They'll also be able to turn their high quality writing into radio-ready podcasts.
Help us create this music and creative digital media station to encourage our students to pursue career paths in audio engineering and visual media production.
Help our at risk teens to discover hidden passions and talents and give them an opportunity to succeed by donating these tools. With this project, our students will move from passive consumers into active producers and build a digital portfolio before graduation. Help our at risk teen see a future careers blossom from their passions.
