Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a K-8 music teacher at an elementary school in the south side of Chicago. I am requesting dance props for creative dancing activities. All students enrolled in the K-5 general music classes will participate in the creative dance activities. In the music class, students will perform and create both the dance and the accompanying music. The dancers will be accompanied by student musicians and CD recordings. Dancers will be encouraged to respond to the music by exploring dance elements of space, time, force, body, and movement. Specific elements include place, size, level, locomotor/ non locomotor motions, shapes, and speed. The dances will seem even more magical to children when dancers are able to manipulate props while dancing. Dance props include scarves, ribbon wands, musical dot spots, wrist streamers, and small bean bags. I am submitting this request to fund the purchase of dance props which will be used by all students in general music classes K-5. Over 400 students will use these supplies during the academic year.
