This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a first year fifth grade special education teacher in a 12:1:1 class, I am always looking for new ways to help my students not only work on their academic skills but master their social-emotional learning skills. Our classroom is a safe space for my students to come together as a community to work on problem solving, taking turns, and listening to each other.
Helping my students have successful communication skills will help them build strong relationships and trust, fostering a positive learning environment.
I have picked supplies that will address improving verbal and non-verbal communication through social emotional activities. Playing games together, like Connect Four, and sharing sensory tools, such as weighted cushions, are a key aspect of helping my students become more resilient as they prepare for middle school next year!
