This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have been a teacher for 27 years. Currently, I have 26 kindergarten students in the Los Angeles Unified School District. My school is in a multicultural environment. Language arts is my passion and I am always trying to incorporate fine arts whenever my resources allow me.
My students are very bright kids and great observers, but they often get off task when they want to share their observations.
For example, "I like your shirt... it has purple flowers... Oh! and tiny green leaves. They look like little circles." "Okay, now back to the letter 'L' class," I said. In my classroom there is a lot of creativity going on in math, language arts, and creative arts. One activity my students enjoy is I.W.T. (independent work time). During this time, students have an opportunity to read books, work at a language arts center or a science center.
My Project
My students need a Jumbo Magnetic Ten-Frame. This will allow me to implement our new common core curriculum, while the students explore base ten number concepts. This can be used during whole group instruction or the students can work in pairs. All they have to do is use the counters to explore the essential math concepts, including addition and subtraction. I would also like a class set of small Ten-Frames that helps keep the counters in place as my kids practice their addition and subtraction.
Also, with the use of the Magnetic Math and Alphabet Maze, my students will be able to practice their numbers and letters in a fun way. Along with that, this simple game will allow me to see which students may need extra practice with identifying letters and numbers.
My kindergarteners are not just about math. Due to time constraints, often times it is difficult to incorporate science, therefore, the Junior Microscope Science Kit would be a great asset to my class.
Your donations will improve our learning centers and provide constructive activities for the students.
With these new materials in our class my students will now have access to better resources that creates a fun learning environment, challenge their minds and helps them develop the skills they need to elevate successfully in their education experience.
