Help me give my students art supplies designed to strengthen motor challenges through artistic expression, and alternative seating which create a welcoming warmth to their social emotional well-being.
Students enter the classroom every day with a sense of wonder, and a spirit of enthusiasm, hoping for something incredible to welcome them into a place that speaks comfort and creativity. Each little moment of artistic discovery in a classroom with fine-motor friendly materials and flexible seating has the potential to transform an ordinary day into wondrous!
My students are ready to embrace color and inspire each other to break free in creativity and comfort!
Students will learn to use the paste-like paint sticks to add color without fear of unwanted drips. The same is true for the tempera paint cakes which enhance paint brush strokes without the splattering globs of paint. Glue sponges will accomplish the same goal of fine-motor friendly material. They can be used as reusable glue pads accessed with just an easy tap instead as opposed to the difficult coordinated lift and squeeze. Tie dyes will accomplish the opposite of control and illustrate how drips are sometimes the desired outcome. It will allow students to drip freely when the type of art requires it. The soft pastels, clay, liquid watercolors, and tempera will demonstrate how fingers that smear can create amazing beauty and simultaneously help to strengthen small muscles needed to write. The pots will be used to pair the outside environment space with the inside and allow nature to inspire art.
The flexible seating designs empower students to make choices of what is most conducive to comfort, and effective for creating or learning.
Many families have faced economic and emotional hardships this year. I would love to encourage healing of those hardships with a sense of artistic beauty created by the hands of our second graders in an inclusive way so that success with art materials can be experienced by ALL.
