As Helen Keller once said, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." Two of my main goals this school year are to promote teamwork and to instill confidence in my students. Middle school students are impressionable, and I would love for them to leave my classroom with the skills that they will need to be successful in high school and beyond. Working in groups and collaborating daily will help my students reach both of the goals that I have for them.
My students rise to the expectation that has been set for them in my classroom.
I have 6 classes consisting of 180 total students. I have three classes of AVID students, one per grade level, two classes of Language Arts Enrichment students and one class of Creative Writing. These students are eager to work up to their potential. They enjoy freedom, movement, and the ability to display their knowledge in various ways. They will sometimes admit that collaboration is not the easiest thing, but they are more open to working together when they are given the chance to move to various spots around the classroom.
My Project
My students will have the opportunity to use this furniture daily. The leather futon will be for partners and groups to work together in a more comfortable environment, as opposed to having to sit at their desks. My classroom has a few alternate seating locations, but this futon will provide even more space for my many students.
The round tables will be the key feature for my students to collaborate on debates and creative writing assignments.
These tables will allow students to develop their teamwork skills in an inviting and engaging way. They will be allowed to use these tables for not only collaboration, but to spread out their work so that they can work together more easily.
