Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach K-5 grade students at a low income school. Most of my students are on government assistance and receive free breakfast and lunch. My classes have 18 to 24 students who are eager to learn new things. The district gives only a small amount of money for school supplies, small instruments, and repair supplies for Elementary Music. My students love to be challenged with new activities. Many of my students have limited knowledge of the world outside their neighborhood and need more opportunities to learn, create, and grow.
My Project
The materials in this project are to make learning and assessments more fun for the students.
When the students are having fun, they learn more and show off what they know.
Having the foam blocks that we can write on will allow the students to work with different musical skills. I can use them in centers and use them to ask questions of the students. The write on puzzle pieces will allow students to work with rhythms, build melodies, work with musical forms, and vocabulary words just to name a few. The Plickers cards are assessment cards that the students use to answer multiple choice questions. I can use my iPad or phone to scan the students' responses and it automatically gives me feedback on how well the class understands the concept.
