This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am the special education teacher in a blended preschool classroom. 70% of our students are general education students and 30% of students receive special education services. We have a diverse classroom with children from many different backgrounds and ethnicities, including English Language Learners. For many of our students, this is their first school experience. My students are amazing! They are kind, curious, and eager to learn every day.

Young children love to express their uniqueness and creativity through art, especially painting.

Currently, we do not have any paint easels in our classroom, because of this, painting has been limited to only a couple of times a month, and it is typically set up at tables with the students sitting. This is not ideal for young children who often get wiggles and like to move around while working and learning.

The four art easels would create a space in our classroom that children will be able to independently access during our Choice Time. Choice Time occurs daily and allows students to self-select where they would like to play and explore in the classroom. Being able to paint at an easel develops fine and gross motor skills, visual motor skills, creative confidence, hand-eye coordination, and independence.
